Introducing… The Interview Series!

By Jennie 7 Comments

There are so many bloggers, writers, and smart “paleo-people” out there!  I thought it might be fun to ask some of them a few questions to see what is going on in their “neck of the woods.”   I am hoping to make this a weekly element on my website…  If you are a blogger, and would like to be featured on EasyPaleo.com, be sure to comment on this post so I can contact you.

Hope you enjoy!

This week we’re talking with

Liz

of PaleoOnABudget

I found her site after she “liked” my Facebook page, and I was so impressed with what I found!  She has some great tips and ideas for those looking to eat Paleo-style without breaking the bank.  She links to coupons, shares her weekly menu and shopping receipts, and has a fantastic sense of humor.  Check it out!

EasyPaleo:  Tell us a little about yourself…

POAB: My name’s Liz!
I run the blog Paleo On A Budget {along with: Primal Puggle, Mr. Not So Paleo {My Fiancé} and a very angry primal kitty}. I’m a total coffee addict, I love yoga, and I listen to my music way to loudly!

EasyPaleo: Tell us your Paleo story (what made you make the change? how has it changed your health? how long have you been at it?)…

POAB: I’ve always had stomach and weight problems… really bad ones. Mr. Not So Paleo actually introduced me to it! He talked to me about it as a “he has a friend on Facebook who just turned paleo.” We talked about it a little, I laughed at the idea {sad I know}. Then, a few weeks later, I saw a picture of myself from a wedding I had just photographed, and literally had no idea what to do, I looked so horrible. Few days later I cleaned out my cabinets, bought Robb Wolf’s book, got groceries… Haven’t looked back since! It’s been over a year now and I still love it! There is no way I’m going back to the old diet! My stomach problems are pretty much gone, unless I accidentally ingest the wrong foods. My skin looks great, my joint pain is gone, I have a ton more energy, I sleep better… and I swear this list could go on for days.

EasyPaleo: What is your favorite Paleo recipe/menu item?

POAB: I have so many… But it has to be sweet potato fries with homemade garlic mayo to dip it in! Or Paleo Shepherd’s pie!

EasyPaleo: Tell us a little about your website…

POAB: My blog {Paleo on A Budget} is to help people who are trying to go Paleo, and do it on a tight budget. I share my grocery trips, what I’m doing to save money, recipes, and any other random ideas that pop up! The best part is that people that are fans of POAB on Facebook and Twitter, are always sharing ideas and helping each other out! We’ve got a great community of sorts going on, and I love seeing it grow!
I’d love to put out a book to go over the whole process, step-by-step, of being Paleo on a Budget, and to eventually provide private coaching for people by going over their grocery lists, helping them plan their trips to the store, teaching them how to use coupons, what and when to stock up, etc!  I absolutely love my blog!  Stop by and say hi!

EasyPaleo: What is your favorite Paleo cookbook?

POAB: I’m still obsessed with Robb Wolf’s 30 day meal plan in his book, I constantly go back and use some of those recipes! I did ask for Make it Paleo for Christmas though, and am so excited to read it!!

EasyPaleo: What do you wish everyone knew about Paleo?

POAB: That it’s easy! And the food is really yummy {who doesn’t love bacon?}!

EasyPaleo: Paleo-eating does not have to be difficult… how do you make this lifestyle an easy element in your life?

POAB: From day one I’ve kept paleo food stocked up in the house; that way making dinner is wicked easy, and I never have to worry that I don’t have anything.  Think of it like rice and pasta, you used to have a million boxes of each floating around.. so now you just want to keep a lot of meat in your freezer, and almonds, frozen veggies, etc on hand. That way if you didn’t plan for a meal you can still make one in a pinch!

Thanks Liz!  Love your site!

I love the idea of doing an interview series; we all can learn something from each other! And I really like the paleo on a budget idea (and I like her web/blog). Paleo can be very expensive, or it can be reasonable, depending on what you’re trying to do and what your parameters are. Sometimes, we just totally overcomplicate things! There are an incredible amount of paleo bloggers out there, and we each have a different idea that we are presenting in that blog/facebook fan page. Personally, I wish I was better at food photography. I’m terrible at it, so I don’t blog half the recipes I make.

I totally agree with you- we have much to learn, and I love that so many paleo-people are out there sharing!

I’m working on my photography too… it’s getting better, but I still have a long way to go. 🙂

Great article and a good idea, helps get the message out and promote the less well known advocates of real food diets.
