Delightful Smoothies…

By Jennie 9 Comments

One of our favorite dessert or snack options is a fresh smoothie.  They are easy to make, healthy (if you make them right!), and always delicious!

Keep in mind that you should not be consuming several smoothies each day.  Some fruits can be pretty high in sugar, and most people should only be having about 2 servings of fruit per day (a serving is about the size of your closed fist).  If you are trying to lose weight, you should probably be eating less than that.

With that in mind, let’s make a smoothie!

Our smoothies generally consist of 1 banana, about 1 cup of fresh or frozen fruit, about 1 cup of coconut milk, a healthy sprinkle of cinnamon, and some ice.  Tonight we had raspberries, so that was our flavor choice.

Use the template above to create your own fabulous smoothie!

Other Items We Sometimes Add to Smoothies:

coconut flakes

almond butter

spinach (you can’t taste it, but it adds some great vitamins and iron to your smoothie!)

carrots

nutmeg

coffee

coconut oil (for added fat and flavor)

avocado

cocoa powder

A Few Favorite Combinations (we always use 1 banana and 1 cup of coconut milk):

coffee and almond butter

pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon

peaches and cinnamon

mixed berries and orange juice

blueberries and spinach

cherries, cocoa powder, and almond butter

extra banana and almond butter

coffee and cocoa powder

peaches and blackberries

My favorite is coconut milk, banana, frozen cherries, spinach, cacao powder and a splash of vanilla…sometimes a bit of flax. I will have to say since going Paleo I miss my smoothies as now I don’t eat them all that often anymore. I used to fix them with some Greek yogurt or whey protein powder for a meal…now they are just a treat every so often!

I love drinking smoothies, and adding kale or spinach is a great way to get those all important ‘greens’ in your diet without having to taste it!

I’ve never tried coconut milk in a smoothie, now I will. Thank you so much for sharing!

      Stephanie –

I agree! And the coconut milk adds so much creaminess… Enjoy!

You can definitely just omit the banana. Add a little extra coconut milk and/or ice. You could also add some coconut cream concentrate / coconut butter for creaminess.

My favorite smoothie is 1/2 banana,1/2 cup frozen blueberries (that way I don’t need ice) 1/4 avocado, 1 cup almond or coconut milk, and a few drops of liquid vanilla stevia. So good!

Thank you so much for these smoothie helpers! I am very new to Paleo and have been CRAVING sweets for a few days..it usually leads to a few cookies. I just made a smoothie with a banana, frozen cherries, frozen mango and pineapple mix, a little spinach and lite coconut milk! It is delicious! Thanks so much for your help! 🙂

Today I made a smoothie with 1 cup of full fat coconut Milk (Native Forest) and after doing that I happened to notice that each serving contained 10g of fat and that there were 7 servings in the can. I am guessing that I used about 1/2-3/4 of the can for that one cup of milk which translates into a good 40g of fat (not to mention the fat in my avocado and my 1tbsp of mct oil). Should I be cutting this in half with water? I don’t have a gall bladder anymore and some 60 grams of fat is probably going to be interesting in just a bit. Do you recommend using the lite variety or just cut the regular one in half with water? Smoothie tasted fine, but thinking that much fat is overdoing it.
