Food Diary: Paleo Oatmeal

Food Diary: Paleo Oatmeal

If you miss the oatmeal that you enjoyed during your pre-paleo days, you will be so excited to try this amazing “Primal Hot Cereal”  from Mark Sisson.

We are visiting our friends, Scott and Sarah Pruett, in Colorado this week, and Scott told us about this delicious recipe.  It is definitely a new breakfast favorite!

This bowl of breakfast goodness is smooth, warm, and creamy… perfect for these cool fall days!

Enjoy!

Primal Hot Cereal

Ingredients:

1/2 cup almonds, whole or slivered
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 banana
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk, plus more to taste

Directions:

Pulse all ingredients in a food processor or blender until desired consistency is reached. Depending on your preference, the hot cereal can be smooth or chunky.

Warm the cereal in the microwave or on the stove until hot. Add fresh berries and more almond or coconut milk to taste.

Oh.my. How easy and looks so tasty! I’m getting tired of eggs for breakfast and so this looks perfect!

Do you think this would this keep for any amount of time?

    • Jennie says:

It might be okay the next day, but I wouldn’t think so after that. The banana in it would probably brown, and get really mushy. Haven’t tested it, but those are my thoughts. :)

Looks great but what about all the omega 6 in the nuts?

    • Jennie says:

      Joan,

I believe it is okay to consume some nuts if you do so in moderation, and not too often. I eat this breakfast with plenty of omega-3-rich grass-fed beef.

I made a Paleo Porridge this morning without banana and it was awesome. I ground up almonds and walnuts, added a handful of raisins and some coconut flakes, sprinkled on some pumpkin pie spice and poured on the coconut milk. Heated it all up and it was so satisfying!
